Reigning Australian and French Open girls’ singles champion, Alina Korneeva, defeated Valeria Savinykh 6-4 2-6 6-3 to set up a second round showdown with another teen phenom, 18-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova.
Haddad Maia: “I feel great. She’s a good player, it was a tough match. She was very aggressive in the second set. I’m happy I was able to fight for everything to get the win today.”
