At age 13, Alex left the Philippines to start training at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca. In 2022, she captured the US Open girls' singles title and reached No. 2 in the junior world rankings. She won five singles titles on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour, including a W100 in Spain last year. Her breakout tournament came at the WTA 1000 Miami Open 2025 where she beat former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys, and this year's Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek in successive rounds before she was upended by world No. 4 Jessica Pegula in the semifinals. Not only does she hold the distinction of being the first Filipino woman to crack the top 100, she is also the highest-ever ranked player from her country in tour history. In addition, Alex represented the Philippines at the 31st Southeast Asian Games where she claimed a bronze in women's singles, doubles, and the team event.
