Since turning pro in 2015, Maria has rapidly ascended the WTA rankings through consistent performances and breakthrough results. She entered the top 100 in 2016 and won her maiden title at the Morrocco Open in 2019. Her second title came at the WTA 1000 Guadalajara in 2023. Her best showings at a major were in 2021 when she reached the semifinals of both the French and US Open. She established herself as the highest-ranked Greek female player ever by achieving a career-high ranking of No. 3 in 2022. She has a powerful serve, plays an aggressive all-court game, and will throw pace and angle variations to unbalance opponents. She was also a two-time finalist at Indian Wells. Maria has earned close to USD 14 million in career prize money and finished in the year-end top 10 ranking three years in a row from 2021-2023. She is returning to Hong Kong for the first time since making her debut here in 2016.
