VICTORIA MBOKO

Eighteen-year-old local wildcard, Victoria Mboko, ranked 85th in the world, defeated Naomi Osaka in the final of the 2025 Canadian Open to become the second lowest-ranked WTA 1000 champion since 1990. With her wins over Sofia Kenin, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, and Osaka, Mboko is the second-youngest woman in the Open Era to defeat four former Grand Slam champions in the same tournament. Earlier this year, she also captured titles at the W35 Le Lamentin, W35 Petit-Bourg, W75 Rome, W35 Manchester, W75 Porto, and was a finalist at the WTA 125 Parma. She began the year ranked No. 333 and is now at a career-high No. 23. Originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, her family settled in Toronto when she was two months old.
